Change the Hostname or Nameservers
This guide explains how to rename your Ultra.sh VPS in the panel and how to change the nameservers it uses to look up domain names.
Change the Display Name or Hostname
The Display name is the label your server shows in the panel. The Hostname is the name the server knows itself by: the panel writes it into the server with cloud-init and uses it as the default display name.
- Log in to the panel as described in Access the Panel, select your server in the Servers list, and click 1 Settings.
- On the 2 General tab, edit the 3 Display name and 4 Hostname fields, then click 5 Save.
Renaming the server in the panel rewrites the hostname that cloud-init writes into the server. The hostname needs no DNS record, forward or reverse, and it does not have to be unique: two servers can use the same hostname.
Change the Nameservers
Nameservers are the DNS resolvers your server asks when it looks up a domain name. When you change them, your server uses the new ones instead.
- Log in to the panel as described in Access the Panel, select your server in the Servers list, and click 1 Settings.
- Open the 2 Network tab, click 3 Add under Nameservers, enter the 4 IP address, and click 5 Save.
The panel then shows a Restart required dialog: your nameserver changes have been saved, and they take effect the next time the server is restarted from this panel.
- Click Restart server to apply them immediately. The server is unavailable for a short time while it restarts.
- Click Cancel to keep the changes saved, and they apply the next time you restart the server from the panel.
