Reinstall a VPS

Early Access: Ultra.sh is currently in early access. Features, plans, and documentation may change as we continue to improve the service. If anything here does not match what you see, open a support ticket and let us know.

Reinstall a VPS

Reinstalling your VPS from the Ultra.sh panel wipes the disk and installs a fresh operating system image. Use it to recover from a broken installation or to switch to a different image, not as a routine maintenance step.

Reinstalling erases all data on the VPS, including files, configuration, and installed applications. This action cannot be undone. Back up anything you need to keep before continuing.

Reinstall Your VPS

  • Log in to the panel from your client area. Open Services, then your VPS, and click Log in to panel.
  • Select the VPS you want to reinstall.
  • Click Settings, then open the General tab.
  • In the Reinstall server section, choose an Image for the new installation.

  • (Optional) Under SSH Keys, paste the public keys that can log in as root on the fresh install. Leave the field empty to keep the keys already on the server. See Generate an SSH Key Pair if you do not have a key yet.
  • (Optional) Enable Start the server when the install finishes if you want the VPS to boot automatically once the reinstall completes.
  • Click Reinstall.
  • Confirm the action when prompted. This step is irreversible, so make sure you have everything you need before continuing.

  • Wait for the installation to finish. This can take several minutes, depending on the image.
  • Once it finishes, check the server's power state and log in as root with your SSH key. If the server has no SSH keys, the panel asks you to generate a new root password on your next visit. To log in with a password instead, see Reset the Root Password.

Troubleshooting

  • The VPS does not boot after reinstalling: Confirm you enabled Start the server when the install finishes, or start the VPS manually from the panel.
  • SSH key login fails: Confirm you added the key before reinstalling and that you are connecting as root. See Manage SSH Keys.
  • Reinstall appears stuck: Allow extra time, then refresh the panel to check the current status.

Contact support if the reinstall fails or the VPS remains unreachable afterward. Include the VPS name or IP address and the image you selected.
