Early Access: Ultra.sh is currently in early access. Features, plans, and documentation may change as we continue to improve the service. If anything here does not match what you see, open a support ticket and let us know.
Get Started with Ultra.sh
This guide explains how to get started with your Ultra.sh VPS. It covers how to order a VPS, create your account at checkout, access the panel, set up root access, and make your first SSH connection.
Prerequisites
- An SSH client to connect to your VPS. On macOS and Linux, use the built-in Terminal. On Windows, use the built-in terminal or another SSH client.
- Optional: An SSH key pair, if you want to log in with a key instead of a password. See Generate an SSH Key Pair for instructions.
Order a VPS
- Go to the Ultra.sh website and compare the available plans.
- Click Deploy on the plan you want.
- Choose the billing cycle in the Choose billing cycle drop-down on the Configure page.
- Select the Location and the Image (operating system) for your VPS.
- Optional: Set the Additional IPv4 Addresses slider if you need more than the included IPv4 address.
- Optional: Paste your public SSH key into the SSH public key field, one key per line. If you leave the field empty, the panel asks you to generate a root password on your first visit.
- Review the Order summary and make sure the plan, location, image, currency, and price are correct.
- Click Continue, then click Checkout on the Review & checkout page.
Create an Account at Checkout
- Enter your personal information, billing address, and a password on the checkout page. The checkout page shows the new account form by default, and your account is created with your order.
- Click Already registered? instead if you already have an account, then sign in with your Email address and Password.
- Enter your card details, select the I have read and agree to the Terms of service checkbox, and click Complete order. See Purchase a VPS for detailed instructions.
- Open the verification email and click the link to verify your email address.
- You can also create an account before you order. Click Sign in on the Ultra.sh website, then click Create account.
Check the Service Status
- Sign in to the client area and open the Services tab.
- Locate your new VPS. The status changes from Pending to Active when the VPS is deployed.
- You also receive an email when your VPS is ready.
Access the Panel
- In the client area, open the Services tab and select your VPS.
- Click Log in to panel on the service page.
- Click Confirm and sign in on the "Confirm your account" screen. The panel uses single sign-on (SSO), so you do not need a separate panel password.
- Click your server in the Servers list to open it.
- Find the server status, IP address, and Console section on the Overview tab. See Access the Panel for detailed instructions.
Set Up Root Access
Generate a Root Password
- Open your server in the panel. The first-access setup appears.
- Make sure the VPS is running, then generate the root password.
- Copy the password and store it in a secure place, such as a password manager.
Use Your SSH Key
- No password setup is required. Connect with the private key that matches the public key you added when you ordered.
Connect via SSH
- Use
rootas the username and22as the port. The server IP address is the Primary IP on the service page in the client area. - Open your terminal or SSH client.
- To connect with a password, execute the following command and enter your root password when prompted:
ssh root@SERVER_IP- To connect with an SSH key, execute the following command:
ssh -i /path/to/private_key root@SERVER_IP- Replace
SERVER_IPwith your Primary IP address and/path/to/private_keywith the path to your private key. - On your first connection, the SSH client asks you to confirm the server fingerprint. Type
yesto continue. - Execute
whoamito confirm that you are logged in with the correct user.
Understand Your Logins
You use separate logins for billing and for your server. Use the correct credentials for each:
Login | Used for | Credentials |
Client area | Billing, invoices, and service management | Your account email and password |
Panel | Managing your VPS | Signed in through SSO from the client area |
Root/SSH | Accessing the VPS operating system | Your root password or SSH key |
Troubleshooting
- Connection refused or timed out: Make sure the VPS is running in the panel, and verify that the IP address and port are correct. This error usually indicates a network or port issue, not a wrong password.
- Permission denied: The username, password, or SSH key is incorrect. Check your credentials and try again.
- Host key warning after a reinstall: Reinstalling the VPS generates a new host key, so this warning is expected after a reinstall. If you have not reinstalled your VPS, contact our support team before continuing.
- SSH is unreachable: Click Open console in the Console section of the panel to access your VPS. See Access the Console for detailed instructions.
- VPS not showing after payment: Check the Services tab in the client area. If the service does not appear or stays in Pending, contact our support team with your order and invoice number.
